Riki:

Cognitive dissonance exists in human mind as a way to resolve innate internal conflicts, created by external realities or eventualities.

The mind is able to hold two (or more) discrete conflicting ideas for a while, as it gathers more overall information toward an eventual resolution.

Each individual has control of their own distinct criteria for, and the timing of, when a commitment is made to a particular belief—thus resolving dissonance. Maybe. And we do this many times over, and over again.

This process is not absolute. The intensity of commitment is variable, as is its resolution.

But an individual’s ability to purge rejected ideas completely, to ensure ego protection is understood. There are ideological absolutists, but not many.

Communication with diverse others is essential to resolving dissonance satisfactorily, individually.
